Backtranslation

I have finished my job. I am tired, but just wanted to write here; not that I have much to say, actually. I will finish my previous post soon, I hope. The future lies empty before me. I am attending an event next weekend, but I can't write about that yet. Apart from that, I'm adrift again. I think I'm just going to sleep now.

I am vaguely looking forward to the German translation of some of my stories, which comes out very soon (in September).

I heard from the publisher again recently, and details of illustrations have been finalised. It even looks like I have more chance of 'making it big' in Germany than in Britain, which, as Dickens remarked a long time ago, is jolly difficult to take by storm. No one in Britain is remotely interested in anything anymore, unless a celebrity tells them to be interested, so it's rather hard to gain a readership here.

Having said that, 'more of a chance' does not equal a huge chance. We'll see.

Anyway, I looked at the publishing details again just now and noticed some biographical material I provided a while back has also been put on the web, along with a photo taken by my brother, who is a professional photographer.

I retranslated – by computer – the German biographical material back into English, and found it surprisingly coherent, though was a little disconcerted to find myself referred to as 'it' throughout. Here it is:

* Quentin S. Crisp was born 1972 in North Devonian, close-long.
* It was interested already since earliest youth to tell stories and dictated to its father the narrations, before it could write.
* It terminated its first novel – approximately handdescribed 300 sides -, when it went still to the school. Mentioned work „the crystal ball “rests momentarily, by dust and spin weaving covered, in the child bedroom of its parents' house.
* Due to personal problems it did not create the examinations for the admission at the university.
* The next five years spent he thereby bass to play and for the volume „The DEAD Bell “Songtexte to write. Besides it worked with „the wolf and Water Theatre company “.
* After the dissolution of „The DEAD Bell “it moved after Amersham, where it tried in vain to earn its living costs as Tarot card readers. During this time he began to learn Japanese and decided the subject at the university to study.
* 1996 it registered at the Durham University of, studied Japanese and spent themselves one year in Japan as part of its training.
* After that successful conclusion of its study it traveled in the year 2000 after Taiwan, in order to teach English there.
* In the following year returned it to Japan, in order to study the works from Higuchi Ichiyo.
* 2003 it returned to England and tried in different occupations, while it writes incessantly Kurzgeschichten.

Hmmm. Apparently I also write "Kurzgeschichten" incessantly.

I wonder what it means.
