The Fourth Story in a Three-Story Book

Recently, a chapbook of my work, The Psychopomps and Others, was released by Rainfall Books. (At the time of writing, the book is still listed as 'forthcoming', but it is in fact on sale now.) The book features three stories, 'The Psychopomps', 'The Legacy' and 'Decay', all of which appeared in my first collection (now out of print), The Nightmare Exhibition. The new chapbook is a limited edition (limited to one hundred signed copies), and the stories have been lightly edited by myself since their last publication. In addition there is a fourth story, with the title 'Mise en Abyme (A Metafiction)', but this story is spread out between all one hundred copies of the chapbook. That is, on the signing sheet at the front of each copy of the book is a line, or a few lines, from the story 'Mise en Abyme (A Metafiction)'.

If you have a copy of the book and are interested in taking part in this experiment, please write the number of your book (from where it says, "This chapbook is copy number _ of 100 copies") followed by the line or lines from the story pasted at the top of the signing sheet, in the comments section of the blog post dedicated to the story, here. If you have any comments on or questions about the story, please write them on this blog entry, and not the one dedicated to the story itself. I have started the experiment with the lines from my own copy of the book (copy #19). I am also conducting the same experiment here.

Thank you.

  1. Hello. Thank you.”My kiddo´s in England, I´ll see if she can pick up a copy where she´s at!”Well, it’s limited edition, so I doubt it will be in the shops. I think this one’s strictly an Internet buy, available direct from the publisher.”Would like to see more!”Hopefully all you have to do is watch this post, or rather, the one below it, and you will, but, then again, the experiment could be a complete failure, and maybe no one will post their fragments. I don’t mind. I like the idea of kind of scattering this story to the wind and ‘letting go’, so to speak. It’s maybe a way of reminding me that I should do that more often, with writing and with anything really.

  2. We have the first fragment posted now. Unfortunately I cannot post on that blog entry to say thank you, so I shall say thank you here.Thank you.I might transfer that fragment to the Ligotti site where I’m doing the same experiment, too.

  3. And we have a new addition to the story!!!Thank you to both people who have added their fragments (Robin and Chris).Since there are a hundred fragments, I probably won’t leave comments every time one is added.I’m also debating whether to paste Robin’s over to Ligotti Online or not to give the two sites of the experiment some uniformity, or whether to let them be independent.
