Girl Happy

What am I going to do? All the best Shelley Fabares songs have been taken off YouTube again.

I was going to embed a Shelley Fabares clip here, actually, but the embedding function has been disabled. Anyway, this is it. I've never really liked Elvis. Well, maybe for a while as a pre-teener. I find his voice to be nasty. It's white sugar rock'n'roll. Anyway, the clip, linked to, of Elivs and Shelley, is pretty interesting. Shelley has some great moves here. She manages to convey in a kind of humorous way that she is manically sexually excited. Elvis, for his part, looks like he'll be saying, "So, what was your name again?" right after they've finished dancing – and onto the next chick. He looks kind of vacant and bored to me.

I really need another fifties/sixties bubblegum-pop starlet whose back catalogue I can mine for inspiration. But who?

(P.S. This site about Shelley Fabares tells me that, "Elvis once cited Shelley Fabares as his favorite actress of those he had worked with". So, make of that what you will.)

(P.P.S. Further investigation reveals there are still one or two crazily good Shelley Fabares songs available on the net. Apart from Lost Summer Love, my favourites are Football Season's Over and Funny Face (currently unavailable). But He Don't Love me and Pretty Please are also insanely pleasant. (Listen all the way through on that Pretty Please link, do.) I wish I could write stuff like this.)
