Coming down with a really bad cold

Oh no! I mean OH NOOOOOO!

Soft toys are apparently a swine flu risk!!!!!

God engineered this just in order to get a touching Hollywood blockbuster scene out of this, starring… ? I don't know, Susan Sarandon, no… Oh well, make that part up.

The epidemic hits affluent Middle America. In the small town of Schmaltzville, a doctor's family is battling valiantly to save neighbours and strangers alike, bringing up, as they do so, all kinds of issues about the healthcare system. How can we treat all these people and still not become socialist!? A very difficult dilemma.

"You know, Victoria," says the good doctor to his wife, "we're not immune. We're going to have to take Emantha's little Mr. Fluffy-boo, and BURN HIM."

"Burn him?"

"It's the only way, darling. Can't you see that? Not just for our neighbours and folks and stuff, but also for Emantha. We've got to do it, honey."

"Yes. I understand. But… you tell her. No… I'll tell her."

I could go on…

  1. Emantha’s little Mr. Fluffy-boo is saved from the fire by the blue fairy. Fluffy-boo, upon being made real, hops out into the yard with its real legs. The other real bunnies look at him quizzically and they hop away. Why did they all leave me here alone? I’m real too, Fluffy-boo thinks. He begins crying. The skin horse never told him what to do after he became real. Then, a hungry feline leaps from the bushes giving Fluffy-boo the opportunity to experience reality. Fluffy-boo would never again threaten any child with swine flu. Ha! The End.

  2. Yes. That and Charlotte’s Web both depressed me deeply as a kid. The little boy just forgets about his beloved Velveteen Rabbit to go on that trip at the end. The Rabbit was just lucky that fairy came wandering along to turn him real.
